Club History

On Sunday, February 2, 1997, after five organizational meetings, 17 members of the Jacksonville bear community came together to ratify the existence of the Jacksonville Regional Bear Association. During the course of the meeting, members of the new organization ratified its by-laws, elected its first Board of Directors and Board Officers, decided upon a logo, and printed club T-Shirts.

During our nearly 10 years in the Jacksonville community, or membership has ranged anywhere from 17 to over 90 members, however  today membership has stabilized at just over 30 bears, with an average participation rate close to 60%.

The Jax Bears joins a nationwide movement of bear organizations.  We are proud to bring this effort to Jacksonville!
